What is U Family Connect?
Because parent and family programs are so critical to the overall success of colleges and universities, I help create and develop exceptional parent/family programs at colleges and universities around the country. Working with both established and emerging programs, I collaborate with institutions to determine what their parent/family constituents need and value, and then strategize with staff about how to accommodate those interests.
Some colleges and universities are just beginning to design their programs, have hired a new and possibly inexperienced staffer, or are moving the program to a different campus division. My role at these institutions is to help staff gear up right away to design the best program possible within their budgets. Special focus is given to marketing efforts/student solicitation and to the first year parent experience. Additionally, or for more established programs, I add value by performing a review of the ways institutions communicate with and engage their parent/family constituents. Evaluations highlight what schools are doing right in their efforts to include parent communities, and ways they can be even more effective, from the very first brochure that is sent to a prospective student through graduation ceremonies.
Colleges and universities well understand the necessity for effective engagement with the families of their students. In many cases, parents and families expect a certain level of service to be provided to them as a result of their investment in the institution. Student services professionals know that family satisfaction/support is critical to student success and retention. And every successful fundraising effort directed at parents and families is built and sustained through strong, personal relationships. Communities, too, benefit from the increased participation of families at events throughout the year.
My expertise is both academic and personal. I created and developed the parent/family program at Montana State
University and directed that program for seven years. I also am the parent of two college students,
and was actively engaged in their college selection process. I think I’m pretty typical in how we approached the college search, and in our expectations of what schools can and should provide to our family.
I look forward to working with you and your institution and to helping you make your programs even more effective. Let's talk right away about how affordable my services are and how you will begin seeing immediate benefits at your school.
